Soul Magic is a rare Talent that deals with the soul. It is not strictly necromancy, and has nothing to do with the reanimation of mindless corpses, even though Soul Mages are often derisively referred to as such by the ignorant.

Soul Magic can be used to cause damage to a soul or to repair it, even to return it to a person's body to resurrect them from death, as a living being rather than undead. The most devastating attack known to the Elkandu is called soulfire, a terrible spell that can burn the soul itself, capable of destroying a soul and preventing it from being reborn.

Soul bonds are intimate connections between two individuals allowing them to share magic with one another, to sense the status of the other, and in the case of Lexen Chelseer, to drag the others across space and time with him. It is unknown if Lexen's case would apply to anyone else, due to his unique Time Magic powers, but it may be possible when traveling to other universes in which counterparts to souls are present.

Soul traps are vessels used to contain a soul, to prevent it from being reborn or resurrected. Casting a soul trap upon someone's own body will prevent them from actually dying no matter how much damage is done to their body. This has been used as a terrible form of torture. If only a fragment of a soul is placed in a vessel, this is known as a phylactery, and can anchor the soul to the physical world and prevent it from entering the Ethereal Plane.

A highly skilled Soul Mage, however, does not require an anchor to remain in the Material Plane, and can become a wraith on their own, fully capable of using magic and able to possess another body at will.
